Trustpilot & Shopware 6 Integration Guide

    Introduction

This guide helps Shopware store owners, developers, and agencies integrate Trustpilot into their Shopware 6 storefronts. It explains the steps to install and configure the Trustpilot+ plugin, test and troubleshoot the setup, and go live with customer reviews. Throughout, we focus on Shopware and Trustpilot basics without external agency references

What is Trustpilot? Overview and eCommerce benefits

Trustpilot is a popular customer review platform. It provides tools to collect, manage, and display verified customer reviews on your website. As Trustpilot describes, it is “the world’s most powerful review platform, helping your business collect and easily manage customer reviews”. Integrating Trustpilot lets you automatically invite customers to leave product and service reviews after purchase. These reviews can be displayed as TrustBoxes (widgets) on key pages, which builds trust and can improve conversion rates and SEO. In short, Trustpilot helps strengthen your brand reputation and turn feedback into business results, like more clicks and higher sales.

    Requirements

Before integrating, ensure you meet these requirements:

    • Shopware version: Shopware 6.4 or higher (the Trustpilot plugin is compatible with Shopware 6.4.x through 6.7.).
    • PHP: A compatible PHP version for Shopware 6 (Shopware 6 requires PHP 8.2 or above. Confirm your server meets Shopware’s requirements.
    • Trustpilot account: You need a Trustpilot Business account. A free account is available; it allows sending up to 100 email invitations per month. You can register for one within the plugin setup if needed.
    • Shopware admin rights: You must have administrator access to your Shopware backend to install and configure the plugin.

The Trustpilot plugin will use your Trustpilot API connection under the hood. No separate API key entry is required  you will simply log in to Trustpilot during setup to connect the accounts.

    Installing the Trustpilot Plugin

In Shopware 6, Trustpilot provides an official “Trustpilot Reviews” plugin (by Ecocode). To install it:

Via the Shopware Store: In your Shopware admin, navigate to Extensions > My Extensions and click Install App to open the Shopware Store. Search for “Trustpilot Reviews” and add it to your cart, then complete the order process (it’s free). After ordering, you can install the app directly from the My Extensions page.

Manual upload: Alternatively, download the Trustpilot plugin ZIP from the Shopware Store site. In the Shopware backend go to Extensions > My Extensions, click Upload Extension, and upload the ZIP file.

After uploading or ordering, click the Install button for the Trustpilot Reviews app. Once installed, switch it from disabled to enabled. This activates the plugin and makes its configuration options available. Ensure your Shopware instance is now connected to the Trustpilot plugin.

    Configuring the Plugin

After installation, configure the plugin to connect your Trustpilot account and set invitation preferences. In Shopware’s admin menu, go to Extensions > My Extensions, find Trustpilot Reviews, and click ••• > Configuration. The main steps are:

    • Connect Trustpilot account: In the plugin settings, click the Connect (or Login) button. You will be redirected to Trustpilot to authorize the connection. Once connected, the plugin can send invites and use your Trustpilot data.
    • General settings: Choose which Trustpilot business unit or profile to use (if you have multiple). Set basic options such as whether to send automatic review invitations and after how many days post-order. By default, automatic invites are off You can configure triggers for Service reviews and Product reviews (e.g. send 2 days after order).
    • Email sender: Optionally, set a custom “From” and “Reply-to” address for invitation emails. If you do, follow Trustpilot’s instructions to add the domain to your SPF record and authorize it as a sender. Otherwise, Trustpilot’s default sender will be used.
    • Business units and templates: If you have multiple business units in Trustpilot, you can use custom email templates per unit. The plugin can link to those templates or use Trustpilot’s defaults.
    • TrustBoxes (widgets): Under the TrustBox (Widgets) section of the plugin, you can select and configure review widgets. Trustpilot provides “TrustBox” widgets (star ratings, review snippets, etc.) that you can enable in your storefront. The Trustpilot plugin supports adding TrustBox widgets via drag-and-drop layout or by enabling the Review Collector footer widget. These widgets will display your Trustpilot star rating and recent reviews on your site.

After saving, each sales channel (storefront) can be configured independently. If you have multiple sales channels, you can enable or disable inheritance and set different invitation triggers per channel. Be sure to assign the plugin to the correct sales channel in Shopware.

    Testing the Setup

With the plugin configured, perform tests to ensure everything works:

    • Place a test order: Use a dummy order to simulate a purchase. If configured for automatic invites, the plugin should log that an invitation will be sent (check the order details in Shopware for any Trustpilot-related fields). You can also manually trigger invites for past orders (the plugin lets you send invites to customers with orders in the last 90 days).
    • Check email invitations: Ensure the test order triggers a Trustpilot invitation email. It should arrive from Trustpilot (or your custom sender).
    • Verify review collection: If you have joined the Trustpilot community, you should start seeing incoming reviews in your Trustpilot Business dashboard under Reviews > Service/Product ratings.
    • TrustBox on storefront: Visit your storefront and find the TrustBox widgets. They will typically display your company or product star rating and recent reviews. For example, you might see an overall “Rating 4.8/5” TrustBox on a page. Ensure the widget appears without errors. Trustpilot’s guides note that TrustBox widgets can be placed at “key conversion points” on your site. In our example below, a TrustBox star rating is visible on a product page.
    • Admin logs: In Shopware, check the System > Log file viewer or your server logs for any Trustpilot-related errors (see Troubleshooting).

By testing both the invitation workflow and front-end display, you confirm that the integration is working end-to-end

    Go Live

Once testing is successful, you can switch to live mode:

    • If you used any sandbox settings or test accounts, replace them with your real Trustpilot account details.
    • Review all plugin settings one more time (automated invites, email templates, TrustBox placement). Make sure automatic invitations are enabled for new orders, so real customers receive them.
    • Make customers aware of the new reviews feature: for example, add a banner or note encouraging customers to leave a review.
    • Monitor your Trustpilot dashboard after going live. It may take a few days for reviews to start appearing as customers respond to invites.
    • Keep an eye on your Shopware admin logs during the initial period to catch any unexpected issues early.

    Best Practices & Security

    • Review responses: Regularly monitor and respond to customer reviews on Trustpilot. Engagement builds trust and improves your review score.
    • Privacy compliance: Only invite customers who have made purchases. Avoid sending unsolicited invites.
    • Secure credentials: Protect your Trustpilot account credentials and API tokens. Do not share them publicly.
    • Keep software updated: Regularly update Shopware 6 and the Trustpilot plugin.
    • Data security: Use HTTPS and follow best practices for server security.
    • Test invitations: Periodically send a test invite after updates.

    FAQ

Do I need a paid Trustpilot plan?
No. You can start with a free Trustpilot Business account. It allows up to 100 email invitations per month. Paid plans unlock more features and higher invite quotas.

Can I invite past customers to review?
Yes. During initial setup, the Trustpilot plugin lets you send invitations to customers with orders in the last 90 days. Be careful not to exceed Trustpilot’s free invite limit if on the free plan.

Where do I see if invitations were sent?
In Shopware, open the order and check the “Additional fields” tab  the Trustpilot plugin adds info there if an invite was sent. In Trustpilot’s dashboard, you can also see a log of sent invitations.

How do I display reviews on my product pages?
Use Trustpilot TrustBox widgets. In the plugin’s TrustBox settings, enable the product review widget and place it via the Layout Builder or theme.

What if the TrustBox widget still doesn’t appear?
Clear your Shopware cache and refresh the storefront. Ensure the storefront theme includes the widget placeholder and that JavaScript is allowed to load from Trustpilot’s domain.

Who do I contact for help?
For Shopware-related questions, consult the Shopware community forums or documentation. For Trustpilot-specific issues, see the Trustpilot support center or plugin documentation.
