Trusted Shops & Shopware 6 Integration Guide


                    

Introduction

Trusted Shops is a popular European trustmark and review platform that certifies online shops. Displaying the Trusted Shops Trustbadge® on your site (a seal of approval) signals to customers that your shop is secure and offers Buyer Protection. Buyer Protection is a money-back guarantee up to a fixed amount if an order goes wrong. After certification, Trustbadge automates collecting service and product reviews from customers post-purchase, boosting transparency and conversion. Integrating Trusted Shops on Shopware essentially adds a dynamic Trustbadge widget (usually floating on your storefront) and optional review display widgets.

Trusted Shops provides a free “Trusted Shops Easy Integration” plugin via the Shopware Store. At this point, the plugin files are in your Shopware instance. The plugin is now ready to be configured with your account.

Requirements

Before installing, ensure your system meets these requirements:

  • Shopware 6 ≥ 6.4.14: The Trusted Shops plugin requires Shopware 6.4.14 or newer. (Older Shopware versions are not supported.)
  • Server environment: Shopware 6 needs PHP 8.2+ (memory ≥ 512 MB) and a supported database (MySQL 8.x or MariaDB 10.11+).
  • Trusted Shops account: You must have an active Trusted Shops (eTrusted) subscription for the Trustmark (and for reviews if used). The integration plugin is free, but the Trustmark/Buyer Protection/review services are paid. If you’re not yet a customer, sign up via the eTrusted Control Center.
  • API credentials: Prepare your Client ID and Client Secret from the eTrusted Control Center. These API credentials connect the plugin to your TS account (they differ from your eTrusted login).
  • Supported languages: The plugin supports these locale codes: de_DE, en_EN, es_ES, fr_FR, it_IT, nl_NL, pl_PL, pt_PT Make sure your sales channel language is one of these.
  • APP_URL: In Shopware’s .env file, set APP_URL to your shop’s exact URL. Trusted Shops will reach this URL to verify your shop.

Meeting these prerequisites ensures a smooth integration.

Installing the Trusted Shops Plugin

Trusted Shops provides a free “Trusted Shops Easy Integration” plugin via the Shopware Store. To install it:

  1. Add to your account: In Shopware’s Admin, go to Extensions → My Extensions, switch to the Shopware Store tab, and search for “Trusted Shops”. Click Download/Install to add “Trusted Shops Easy Integration” to your account.
  2. Install the plugin: Back in My Extensions, find Trusted Shops Easy Integration and click Install. This downloads the plugin to your system.
  3. Activate it: After installation, toggle the plugin from “deactivated” to “activated”. Then click the “…” menu next to it and select Open extension to access its settings.

At this point, the plugin files are in your Shopware instance. You should see Trusted Shops listed under your extensions. The plugin is now ready to be configured with your account.

Configuring the Trusted Shops Plugin

Log in with API credentials:

In the plugin settings, you’ll see a login prompt for Client ID and Client Secret. Click Request to open the eTrusted login page. Log in with your TS account to get a pop-up that lets you copy your Client ID and Secret. Paste these into the plugin fields and click Connect. (If you’re not a TS customer, the login screen links to membership info.) Successful login is confirmed in the plugin.

Link sales channels:

If you have multiple sales channels (languages/domains), link each Shopware channel to the corresponding eTrusted channel. In the plugin Settings, a pop-up will appear where you match each channel via dropdown and click Save. You must link at least your default channel. This ensures trust data (like reviews) is correctly associated per language/shop. (You can relink channels later if needed.)

Configure the Trustbadge:

  1. Go to the Trustbadge tab in the plugin.
  2. Select the channel you’re configuring from “Channel selected”.
  3. Ensure the toggle is active (on) – this turns on the Trustbadge and Buyer Protection for that channel.
  4. Choose the display mode (usually Standard). By default, “Standard” places the Trustbadge at the bottom-right on desktop and bottom-left on mobile.
  5. Use the dropdowns to adjust placement: you can change left/right alignment for desktop and mobile users, and even offset it by a few pixels (e.g. “Move up by 10 pixels”).
  6. After setting your preferences, click Save changes. Also make sure Buyer Protection and Review collection are enabled (they often turn on with the Trustbadge).

Enable review collection (Invites):

With the Trustbadge active, Trusted Shops will automatically email customers after purchase requesting a service review (and product review if enabled). This is usually on by default.

Create review display widgets:

  1. Go to the Widgets tab.
  2. Click Create a new widget. In the pop-up, click Go to eTrusted to open the widget library.
  3. Select a widget template (e.g. Review Carousel), configure options (language, number of reviews, filters) and click Create widget code.
  4. Back in the plugin, click Reload list – your new widget will appear under “Current widgets”.
  5. Use the Location dropdown to choose on which page(s) the widget should appear (e.g. product pages, homepage). For product review widgets, also set the Product id field to identify products (e.g. SKU).
  6. You can hover the eye icon next to a widget to preview it before saving.
  7. Finally, click Save changes to activate the widget on your site. (Note: Product review widgets only appear if you have the Product Reviews service; otherwise you’ll only see Service Review widgets.)

Testing the Integration

  • Trustbadge on store: Visit your storefront. The Trustbadge (seal and rating stars) should appear in the corner you chose.
  • Test order + Trustcard: Place a test purchase. After checkout, you should see the Buyer Protection Trustcard on the order confirmation page. This card says something like and lists the shop name and order amount, confirming Buyer Protection is active. If the trustcard appears (as in the image above), your integration is working: future buyers will similarly see it and receive review invite emails. Also verify any review widgets: e.g. visit a product page and see if a star-rating widget appears as configured.
  • Check review invites: Wait a few days and confirm that review invitation emails are sent to your test customer (with a link to leave a review). If you receive them, review collection is active.

Troubleshooting

Some common issues and fixes:

  • Login/authentication errors:If the plugin fails to connect with an authentication error, double-check that you copied the Client ID and Client Secret correctly (no extra spaces). You can regenerate credentials in the eTrusted Control Center if needed. Also verify that APP_URL is set to your shop’s actual domain (so TS can reach it).
  • Trustbadge not visible:Ensure the Trustbadge is enabled in plugin settings and the correct channel is selected. Clear Shopware cache and refresh. Check that your site uses HTTPS.If you have a custom theme or layout, temporarily switch to the default theme to rule out conflicts. Also, remove any old Trusted Shops plugin: if you previously had a different TS integration installed, uninstall it first to avoid clashes.
  • Shopware version or language:Confirm your Shopware is ≥ 6.4.14 and that the channel’s language code is one of the supported locales. The older Shopware plugin (pre-6.4.14) was officially end-of-lifed on 30 March 2023, so using the new plugin on a minimum required version is important.
  • Logs and updates:Check Shopware’s var/log/ files for any error messages related to Trusted Shops. Also ensure you have the latest plugin version (the Shopware Store will notify you of updates).

If problems persist, consult the Trusted Shops documentation or contact their support. Often it’s a small configuration issue (like a typo in credentials or a cached old version).

Go Live

There’s no separate live-mode toggle  once testing passes, your store is effectively live with Trusted Shops. Do a final storefront check in a private browser and, if desired, place one small live order to confirm the Trustcard appears and no errors occur.

  • Protect API credentials.
  • Always use HTTPS.
  • Encourage genuine reviews.
  • Monitor reviews and handle Buyer Protection claims promptly.
  • Ensure GDPR compliance for review-invite emails.

 

While Trusted Shops is excellent for verified buyer badges and checkout guarantees, many stores also layer in Google Reviews as a complementary trust layer to Trusted Shops. Google Reviews are visible directly in search results and Google Maps, giving your brand credibility before a visitor even lands on your site — making the two tools highly complementary rather than competing.
